Master Classes for professionals-entrepreneurs operating in tourism and hospitality services sector in Gjirokaster area in Albania

In the framework of the project “Integrated Approaches for the Promotion of Cultural Heritage: Ancient Theaters and Sites Route as Branded Destination” – i-Thea (INTERREG Greece-Albania 2014-2020) during Thursday, March 10th and Friday, March 11th the Regional Center for Development and Cooperation-RCDC organized 6 Master Classes for professionals-entrepreneurs operating in tourism and hospitality services sector in Gjirokaster area in Albania.

These Master Classes were designed to respond to one of the main objectives of the project, that is, to strengthen the tourism offer through the development of holistic cultural tourism products, with the parallel participation of local communities in a model of integrated management and governance.

The themes selected for these Master Classes each lasting four hours, wrapped around Tourism Marketing, Customer Service and Ancient Gastronomy gathering over 50 participants, mainly tourism entrepreneur’s representatives covering such topics as:

  • Tourist packages that will be created based on the Cultural Route upon consulting stakeholders of tourism in Gjirokaster in advance
  • Gjirokastra as the “brand”; Its strengths and weaknesses in view of potential tourism segments enriching the offering in line with evolving customers’ expectations
  • Historical recipes of Gjirokaster turned into dishes; how to use modern ingredients.
  • The client in Tourism, overview of client typologies. Image, safety and security during the stay, efficiency in quality and service, value for money.

The presentations were combined with open discussions between the speakers and the participants emphasising and encouraging the cooperation of the local population, businesses and regional bodies to raise awareness about cultural heritage and to co-create branded tourism products through innovative tools. Co-creation  leads to effective management and promotion of the tourist destination, improved quality of the products and services, improved market intelligence  and reduced seasonality in heritage destinations.

RCDC staff collaborated closely with a group of well-known experts/key speakers and Gjirokastra stakeholders to efficiently and professionally deliver these master classes.
